ABSTRACT

Context: The use of nanotechnology in medicine and more specifically drug delivery is set to spread rapidly. Currently many substances are under investigation for drug delivery and more specifically for cancer therapy

Evidence Acquisition: Nanodiamonds [NDs] have contributed significantly in the development of highly efficient and successful drug delivery systems, and in stem cell therapy. Drug delivery through NDs is an intricate and complex process that deserves special attention to unravel underlying molecular mechanisms in order to overcome certain bottlenecks associated with it. It has already been established that NDs based drug delivery systems have excellent biocompatibility, nontoxicity, photostability and facile surface functionalization properties

Results: There is mounting evidence that suggests that such conjugated delivery systems well retain the properties of nanoparticles like small size, large surface area to volume ratio that provide greater biocatalytic activity to the attached drug in terms of selectivity, loading and stability

Conclusions: NDs based drug delivery systems may form the basis for the development of effective novel drug delivery vehicles with salient features that may facilitate their utility in fluorescence imaging, target specificity and sustained release

ABSTRACT

Many herbomineral preparations in traditional medicines are being used from time immemorial like Kushta Ahrak Safaid, Busoor-e-Labinyah etc. as therapeutics remedies in common ailments such type of preparations are known to have additive and pronounced effects to cure any obstinate disease condition

The main objective of this research dtudy is the formulation of herbomineral capsule [ALG-06] to treat such type of condition like hypopigmentation in case of vitiligo

In order to achieve the best quality of this formulation physicochemical analysis i.e. fluorescence test, ash values, extractive values and moisture content of combined powdered drug of herbs and minerals were performed followed by phytopharmaceutical calculation of flow ability of blended powder by means of angle of repose, porosity,

Accelerated stability studies were also performed to establish the efficacy of the formulation. In this regard organoleptic properties color, odor, appearance and tosMt. weight variation, disintegration and bio burden of ALG-06 formulation were monitored at 40°C/75% relative humidity [RH] along with a room temperature [RT] for a period of one month

ABSTRACT

Waja-uz-Zahr [Back Pain] is common articular disease, a specific type of Waja-ul-Mafasil, usually occurs due to soo-e-mizaj of that part and often associated with accumulation of fasid madda [morbid matter] at that specific part of body[1, 11]. In present randomized, open, comparative study, 30 patients with Waja-uz-Zahr received orally Unani formulation and 30 patients received wet-cupping procedure on the lower part of back. Three primary outcome measures were considered; Back Pain, Back Stiffness and Difficulty in performing Physical activities. Hejamat-bil-Shurt is more effective in the management of Back Pain, Back Stiffness and Difficulty in performing Physical activities in comparison with the oral medication

ABSTRACT

"Both in importance and in time, health precedes disease, so we ought to consider first how health may be preserved and then how one may best cure disease" [Galen A.D. 200]. In Unani system of medicine there is a concept of six essentials of life [Asbab-e-Sitta Zarooriah] i.e. Air, Water, Solid and Liquid diet, Activity and Repose, Sleep and Wakefulness, Retention and Evacuation. In order to maintain our health it is necessary to keep these factors at optimum level and it is also necessary in the prevention of carcinoma. A large number of carcinomas are caused or promoted by change in life style factors, controllable by society or individual or both. Tobacco use, alcohol addiction and certain dietary components arc the most well established risk factors. Carcinoma prevention can be achieved by avoiding preventable etiological factors i.e. dietary factors, occupational factors and environmental risk factors. Dietary recommendation, an education about carcinoma prevention and role of physician by focusing on such causative factors, may be effective tools in the fight against carcinoma

ABSTRACT

Barshasha is a compound Unani formulation commonly used as a tranquillizer and sedative drug by the ancient Unani physicians. In this double blind, randomised controlled trial, Barshasha was used as a sedative, tranquillizer and analgesic in the patients of Cholecystectomy. Apart from the established actions, the Barshasha in this study showed a reducing effect on oral and tracheo-bronchial secretions during operative procedures, thus preventing from the aspiration pneumonia, the most likely and hazardous complication in surgical procedures. In addition to this activity, Barshasha has shown no detrimental alterations in cardiovascular variables

ABSTRACT

In Unani system of medicine, treatment of a patient is performed by administering medicines [Ilaj bil-Dawa], by adopting suitable technique of interference in six-essentials of life [Regimental therapy] and by using manual art and surgical instruments [Ilaj bil-Yad/Ilaj bil-Hadid]. Since ancient time Ilaj bil-Yad consists of treatment of fractured bones, reduction of dislocated bones, incision of body tissues, amputation and excision of diseased body parts, cauterization of diseased body parts and stitching of incised and damaged tissues. In Arabic literature, Ilaj bil-Yad is also termed as Ilaj bil-Hadid [treatment by surgical instrument] or Sana'at ul-Yad [Manual Art or Operative Procedure]. Cauterization is reckoned in the category of manual treatment and it is performed either by fire [Hot metal] or by strong corrosive medicine. Now it is being realized that if cauterization is performed/applied as a common surgical procedure in the contemporary medical practise, it may provide successful treatment for a large number of diseases

ABSTRACT

Thirty six patients [24 males, 12 female; mean age 42 years] hospitalized to undergo incision and drainage for documented or suspected surgical infections were treated with a combination of sulbactam and ampicillin. Mean daily dose employed was 1.25 gm sulbactam and 2.5 gm ampicillin given intravenously for a mean treatment period of 10 days. A clinically satisfactory response [cured plus improved] was achieved in 78% of patients with a response rate of 100% in cases of non-perforated appendicitis, sepsis traumatic wound infections and cellulites. Ninety two percent of the pathogenic bacteria isolated from infecting sites in 11 patients, were found sensitive to sulbactam/ampicillin. Complete to partial elimination of bacteria was recorded at the end of study in 82% of these patients. The results of this study indicate that sulbactam/ampicillin is an effective and well tolerated agent for the treatment of surgical infections requiring parenteral antibiotic therapy
